19: Grand Tour Alabaster Sculpture On Marble Base
Description

The carved alabaster sculpture depicts "The Rape Of Polyxena" after the Pio Fedi (1865) sculpture found in Loggia dei Lanzi, Florence. In the scene the Greek warrior Achilles ambushes and is abducting Polyxena while striking down the mother Hecuba while they were out fetching water and her prince brother Troilus is shown laying on the ground. The sculpture is unsigned, in good overall condition. Sculpture measures 40 in. high x 17.5 in. wide x 15.25 in. deep, while the base measures 30 in. high x 17.5 in. wide x 15.25 in. deep.
